Fast Bowler and Dictatrix in same contest

Wednesday, September 6, 2006

FAST BOWLER and DICTATRIX are both running in the 7 furlong 3 year olds only handicap at Southwell tomorrow on the turf. James Eustace does not generally like doing this but it is an ideal contest for both of them and they are both ready to run. DICTATRIX has not run for 2 months as she has had a soft plate operation. This appears to have been successful but the big test will be the racecourse. She is fit enough to run tomorrow but will definitely improve for the race. She has a lot of weight to carry too but Steve Donohue rides her and claims 3 pounds which will help. FAST BOWLER got badly interfered with in his last race at Newmarket and was struck into. He has now recovered from that and on home form would be the best chance tomorrow. There is very little between the 2 horses at home but FAST BOWLER is receiving 4 pounds from DICTATRIX tomorrow which should give him the edge.

HIGHLAND CASCADE has been boldly entered in a Listed race at Chester on Saturday. It is for fillies only over 6 furlongs and she loves the track so James Eustace thought it was worth having a look at the race. There are a lot of similarly rated fillies amongst the entries, they all have the same idea of trying to get some black type in their pedigree. By being placed in a listed race the pedigree of a filly would be improved which would make her more valuable when retiring to stud. She will only run if the race looks like cutting up.

INQUISITRESS was disappointing at Leicester yesterday. The poor draw could have been a contributing factor as she had to do a lot early on in the race to ensure a good position. It could also turn out to be a good 2 year old race. ANATOLIAN PRINCE ran respectably as he is a very laid back horse and will hopefully improve a lot for this run. LOCAL FANCY put in another good performance at Catterick yesterday finishing third. She also did not have a good draw and did not handle the track too well in the straight. She is running well at present and will hopefully be winning before too long.
